Abstract

“The enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition.” -WHO. Transmission electron microscopes are patterned after Transmission light microscopes and wi1l yield similar information but at extremely higher magnification. Electron microscope is a powerful tool to study the muscle status in disease like oral submucous fibrosis, where muscle changes plays a vital role in the pathogenesis of the condition. This article reviews ultrastructural features of normal and diseased muscle. This would aid in better understanding of the morphology of muscle for furtherresearehes in exploring the pathogenesis of various condition involving muscles.
