Abstract

Oral cancer is the major health hazard prevailing in the South Asia particularly in Indian subcontinent. About 95 percent of all oral cancers are found to be oral squamous ce1l carcinoma and globally it is the sixth most common cancer affecting the human race. Exfoliativc cytology refers to microscopic examination of cells scraped from the surface of lesions. Ora] exfo]iative cytology is a simple non invasive technique which can be used in cancer diagnosis. The present study was carried out to find the sensitivity and specificity of oral exfoliative cytology in cancer diagnosis and to correlate the cytologic andhistopathologic interpretation in cancer diagnosis.
